A few words with Danai Liodaki

Could you introduce yourself briefly? Tell us a few things about your background, studies, and general interests.

My name is Danai Liodaki and I come from Athens, Greece. My background is a puzzle, as I have studied Architecture in the National Technical University of Athens, then Acting in the Greek Art Theater and then did my MSc in the program Architectural Design- Space- Culture again in the National Technical University of Athens. After my studies I have worked in the cultural sector in Greece and in Germany. I have also worked as a Regional Development Consultant and collaborated with Municipalities and Regional Governments all over Greece. All these brought me to CORAL ITN and the Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography here in Leipzig.

How was your moving to your new home? How are things going for you in your new place?

Leipzig is a great city and so far I am enjoying discovering it. Of course, mobility comes with a cost and it is never easy to be away from your loved ones, but still the benefits are a lot. Everyone in our Institute is welcoming and helpful and I have already met some interesting scholars and great people. It is great to be part of this devoted and passionate team.

You are preparing for your Work Package meeting, how is your work going?

Could you share with us some key insights/ “aha moments” from your work so far?

For the time being there are no “aha moments”, but a lot of “back and forth” moments and a little bit of chaos. But it is a creative chaos and I am embracing it to move forward. I have discovered a lot of interesting literature and I am trying to figure out the best way to form my main arguments. A nice moment was when I discovered literature that raises issues on the perception of local development, similar to the questions I had when I was working in the field.

What do you expect from the WP meeting?

I expect to hear more from my colleagues. I am excited to see how everyone’s ideas are evolving. I would also like us to study theoretical concepts that are relevant to our topics and exchange ideas, literature and experiences.
