Keynote Speakers

Janet Merkel

Dr Janet Merkel is an urban sociologist and post-doc researcher working at the Chair of Urban and Regional Economics at the Institute of Urban and Regional Planning at Technical University Berlin. From 2015-2018 she has held a lectureship position (assistant professor) for CCIs at City, University of London. She also held research positions at the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB) in the research unit ‘Cultural Sources of Newness’ and at the Centre for Cultural Policy at Hertie School of Governance. Her research interests include new forms of work organization (coworking), CCIs, creative labour, urban politics and governance for culture and creative industries and cultural planning.

Annett Steinführer

Dr Annett Steinführer is a rural scholar with a background in urban sociology and geography - which she finds a perfect combination to consistently (re)consider urban-rural linkages but also the development of villages or small towns as such. Her spatial focus is on Europe, particularly on Central Europe. But above all, she is interested in people - their sense-making, narrations, the decisions they take and the intended and unintended consequences of their actions. This is a never-ending inspiration for social research!

Gary Bosworth

As an active researcher in the fields of rural entrepreneurship and regional economic development, he serves on DEFRA's Rural Academic Advisory Panel and on the North East Rural Innovation Steering Group. He is also co-chair of ISBE's Rural Entrepreneurship Network and a Fellow of the Regional Studies Association. Gary leads modules on Contemporary Issues in Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurial Ecosytems and Policy and supports research methods teaching and dissertation supervision.

Juli Biemann

At CoWorkLand, Juli Biemann is responsible for CoWorkNet, an initiative for networking and advising potential coworking space founders in the region of Lüneburg in Lower Saxony.
